Description The action began 58 miles to the west of the Isles of Scilly. The three French ships Tamise, Tribune and La Legere were cruising in company.

In a parallel action HMS Santa Margarita had just captured the Tamise.

As a result the Tribune put on all sail to escape, chased by HMS Unicorn. The chase lasted 10 hours and 210 miles.

Then at 2230hrs Unicorn opened fire, beginning a close engagement. Within an hour the French ships had two masts brought down and her guns silenced when she surrendered.

Tribune lost 37 killed and 15 wounded out of 339 aboard. Unicorn suffered no casualties out of 240 aboard.

La Legere escaped.
