Description The action took place off Cape Barfleur, Cherbourg.

As dawn broke HMS Crescent sighted a ship and large cutter to seaward, on of which was the French frigate Reunion (36). Crescent attacked and after a battle lasting 2 hours 10 minutes, Reunion struck her colours. 

Reunion lost 33 killed and 48 wounded out of 300 aboard.

Crescent suffered no casualties and her Captain, James Saumarez was knighted on his arrival at Portsmouth.
